Lan Messenger – Network Lan Chat

As a network administrator, you may need to install an instant messenger service in a corporate network (small or large, it doesn’t matter).

In large networks, you can use some software like Microsoft Lync (or Office Communications Server). This software allows you to create a very complex messaging infrastructure including audio and video conferencing services, relying on Windows Server Active Directory.

In smaller networks, where there is no need to install a special server or where staff computer skills are limited, you can use more “simple” software. Then, with just a few clicks, you can install a simple instant messenger service.

For this purpose, you can use a little software app called LAN chat

The advantages of this software are manifold:
  • quick and clean installation on each client;
  • simple configuration for everyone;
  • clients will automatically recognize each other, showing all online users;
  • free of charge; no need to buy any license;
  • good stability on different platforms;
  • you can create multi-chat or private rooms with some users;
  • you can send files or folders to everyone.
Some disadvantages of Lan Messenger:
  • there isn’t video conferencing function;
  • you can’t chat via voice messages

Download and Installation

Go on Download LAN chat and, after choosing the right version, download Lan chat.
After download, run the installation.

Accept Terms of Use and click on Install. After installation run the software.
It will add an icon in the notification area where we can control and configure Lan Messenger.

Recall the main window by clicking on the Lan Messenger icon just created.
Clicking on Tools -> Preferences, you can configure the software for your purpose.

Here we can set user’s name, language, broadcast address, theme and more…
Just check this video guide:

After configured everything properly, click OK and go back to the main screen to change user’s avatar.

This is a great software for those who haven’t big claims, but only the need to remain in touch with their colleagues and exchange files or folders with them.

If you have questions or problems with the configuration write a comment! I’ll be happy to help you!!!

Mike.
